TSA Students Build on First-Year Success
Last year marked the beginning of a new chapter at Las Vegas High School: students competed in the Technology Student Association (TSA) for the first time. From the state conference to the national conference in Washington, D.C., LVHS students gained valuable experience while learning what it takes to compete at the highest levels.
While competition results were an important part of the experience, the chapter also recognized that success in TSA takes time, preparation, and experience. For its first year, the chapter wanted to establish a goal that was completely within the students’ control.
That goal was the TSA Achievement Program, and the Wildcats’ goal was to have all students achieve Bronze-level achievement. Students worked throughout the year to complete the program requirements while developing the skills, knowledge, and leadership qualities that will help them succeed in future TSA competitions.
The LVHS chapter came remarkably close to its goal, with approximately 90% of its members earning the Bronze level. Several students went even further, completing the requirements for the Silver Achievement level.
For two Wildcats, the journey is continuing toward the highest level of recognition. Giovanni Caldera and Jeremiah Ray are currently pursuing TSA Gold. In the Silver State’s history, only one Nevada student has achieved that level of success. Here at the oldest high school in Las Vegas, we hope that number soon becomes three with our two Wildcats making the list.
The accomplishments of last year’s members are also creating opportunities for continued success. Students who earned Bronze can carry their progress into this school year and work toward Silver and, eventually, Gold. With students continuing to build on the foundation they established during the chapter’s first year, LVHS could see even more members earn national recognition in Orlando in the summer of 2027.
The first year of TSA at Las Vegas High School demonstrated what students can accomplish when they set ambitious goals and commit to reaching them. We are excited to continue making progress with our students in TSA this year and for years to come!
